Join us for a different Breaking Away experience… Vacationing in a luxury Spanish villa in the picturesque Catalan region! Imagine enjoying a week in the same sublime location where you’re daily choices include amazing cycling, relaxing under an olive tree poolside or perhaps signing up for a massage or a cooking class. Our stone villa’s features include a arched living room, dining room, gym, media room, wi-fi, covered terrace, massage room, jacuzzi and 25m pool- plus each deluxe bedroom has its own private bathroom en suite. All breakfasts and group dinners will be prepared by the villa’s private chef. Cycling routes vary from easy rolling roads past olive groves or vineyards to challenging routes in the Pyrenees! In addition to the riding and villa activities we will offer day trips to nearby medieval villages, wine tastings and sunbathing at the beaches of Costa Brava. June 6th: Leave USA.
June 7th: Afternoon pickup in front of the Barcelona airport hotel (Hesperia Tower Hotel) & transfer to our villa. Checking in. Bike fitting and building. Relax by the pool before the Group meeting and Welcome group dinner that evening.
June 8th: The day of the Volcanoes ride. Riding from the Villa descent to the pristine lake of Banyoles before staring your gradual climb into the Volcanoes National Park. Cycle through a plateau and then climb up again to the beautiful village of Santa Pau. Then follow a route winding between the trees back down to the plateau and to the Villa. Group meeting and open night for dinner in Girona. Walking tour of old city quarter before open dinner night.
June 9th: Today cycle a beautiful route taking in some amazing coastal scenery, after a short warm make your way over the Mid Pyrenees through the villages and challenge your self on a climb up to 10th century monastery. From here you descend back to the Mediterranean and enjoy another short climb pass some of the areas best organic wineries finishing the day’s ride with a descent back to the Mediterranean coast. After a delicious lunch along the seaside promenade we will have a van transfer back to the Villa. Group meeting and group dinner.
June 10th:Recovery day or choice to ride a tough local loop with one or two climbs. Ride out and do the El Mont Loop/Racocorba or stay at the Villa and relax by the pool or schedule a massage. Later in the day after a group meeting we will shuttle to medieval village of Besalu – enjoy your walk of old quarter followed by an open night for dinner in Besalu.
June 11th: Pyrenees (Optional as you can ride near the Villa as well for a less challenging ride). This is a short van transfer to a small town were the rolling route starts taking you from Spain into France and back into Spain through the Pyrenees. Couple of options that we will discuss at the meeting wed.eve. Group meeting and group dinner.
June 12th: Pyrenees (Optional as you can ride near the Villa as well for a less challenging ride). This is a short van transfer to a drop off spot . The route slowly makes as it makes its way through rolling hills on the way to the warm up climb in Mid-Pyrenees . After a short descent get ready and test your legs on this final day 20.4 km climb up to the Pyrenean ski station of Vallter 2000. Group meeting and farewell dinner.
June 13th: Early morning van transfer to the Barcelona airport.
