Your Route Choices

All trips offer 2 to 3 daily route options—your choice of about 30, 50 or 70+ miles. Each evening you’ll receive color-keyed, detailed maps with written directions and route profiles. Together we’ll review all the routes and viewing options for the next day as well as inform you on special points of interest. Our rides are not competitive and we never do one large group ride— you choose your pace, distance or partners. A tour leader will join you out on the road to offer encouragement, help with directions or with any other concerns. We offer a minimum of three support vans per trip to help you adjust your daily mileage with custom drop offs & pickups. For added support we can also be reached on our cell phone. You just relax, ride & enjoy— we’ll take care of everything else!

Terrain / Ability Levels
All our trips include a mix of different riding abilities plus a few non-riders. We cater to intermediate to advanced riders. Select a trip in which the terrain matches your desires and abilities. We consider an intermediate rider as a cyclist with good bike handling skills, competent to ride their choice of between 30-50 miles per day over rolling to hilly terrain and able to handle medium (3-5 mi.) climbs and descents. A strong intermediate rider is one who has very good bike handling skills and enjoys longer climbs and descents (3-8+ mi.) within their choice of mileage. Advanced riders have excellent bike handling skills and expect higher daily mileage (40-70+), riding it at a quicker, more consistent pace than the intermediate riders.

Tour Characteristics

We offer you four different types of cycling vacations- Each has its own unique personality, as described below:

TourPaks: Our popular TourPak trips follow “Best of Itineraries” from our years of offering trips to regions frequented by the Tour de France & the Giro D’Italia. These trips are perfect for the cyclist who wants to ride many of these same historic routes but doesn’t care as much about viewing the racing action. They’d rather have a more relaxed daily schedule, riding from hotel to hotel without the race related guidelines.

RacePak/TourPak Combos: Our new RacePak/TourPak Combo trips offer a combination of viewing world class cycling competition along with the easy pace of our TourPak vacations . Enjoy the excitement of seeing the world’s top pros challenge historic routes without the break-neck schedule of most other race viewing vacations. If you’re a die-hard cycling fan you should experience a RacePak/TourPak vacation at least once in your life…No TV program, video or magazine can give you the feeling you get by riding the official race route the same day as the racers and then seeing the competition later in the day with your own eyes!

“Self-Guided Tours”: These popular trips are perfect for couples, families or groups wishing for a more flexible way to enjoy a special cycling trip-with the help of our 24 years experience in producing vacations. You can follow our suggested daily itineraries or modify them as you go to custom fit your individual daily needs & tastes (sleep in, explore a chateau or winery, enjoy a French roadside picnic).

We’ll provide the Breaking Away Tour Leaders and support van for the custom trip of your dreams. You just provide the dates and region you want to travel and we’ll take care of everything else.
