Tour Highlights

You love cycling in the high mountains and off the beaten path – Why not have it all? The Classic Climbs. Undiscovered places. Amazing Regional Cuisine & Wine. This tour’s route will start lakeside in Alleghe with the stunningly beautiful Dolomite mountains of northeastern Italy all around us. You will challenge yourself cycling up the countless switchbacks of majestic alpine passes like Passo Giau or take in the breathtaking scenery of the grand strada five pass loop of Farzelego, Pordoi, Sella, Gardena, Compolongo and Colle St. Lucia. Because of this unique junction of climates, the blend of Germanic and Mediterranean cultures and geography, this Dolomite region features Italy’s most stunning topography. The second part of this challenging and spectacular tour takes us into what many people in the travel industry are calling Slovenia the next”It” destination. “It” has it all -the charm of old Europe, dreamy landscapes of the Julian Alpes and quiet, cycling friendly roads. Cycling though this country you will encounter varied beautiful landscapes-picturesque alpine villages and an abundance of medieval castles and vineyards.

Daily Itinerary

June 25th: Depart the USA for Italy
June 26th: Welcome to Venice, Italy! Airport pick up. After building bikes and rental bike adjustments at our local airport hotel we will have a late afternoon/early evening van transfer to the lakeside village of Alleghe. Our  four star hotel is situated directly on the lake and will make a perfect home base for four nights. Tonight you will meet your fellow guests at
our“Welcome Reception & Dinner Party.”
June 27th: After a great buffet breakfast we will cycle a picturesque route that includes Passo Duran, Passo Staulanza & Colle St. Lucia.
Relax with a drink lakeside or treat yourself to an optional massage at our hotels spa before a group meeting and dinner specializing in local delicacies.
June 28th: Prepare yourself for possibly the best day of cycling in your life.  A cycling route like no other in challenge and beauty,  the “Grande Strada delle Dolomiti”.  Today’s four mountain pass loop will include the Passo Falzarego, Gardena, Sella & Pordoi.  After finishing your ride, splurge on a relaxing massage at our hotel’s spa. Toast your ride  and share stories with your fellow guests tonight at our group dinner that will include a menu with traditions and flavors of the Dolomite’s culinary art.
June 29th: Another day of unbelievable cycling in the Dolomite’s. After a sumptuous breakfast buffet you will tackle that mighty Alleghe Sub Loop with Passo Duran & Passo Staulanza and if you feel up to it after a tasty mountain top lunch break, challenge yourself with the accent up to the top of Passo Giau and the descent that takes you back to Alleghe.
June 30th: After breakfast and hotel check out we will have a short van transfer out of Alleghe into Austria. Once on the road your day will start with a warm-up climb, once you’re on the descent you will be welcomed by a long, wide valley, offering a relaxing ride. You will forget, that you are still in the hearts of the Alps. But not for long, since right after entering Slovenia you will be absorbed by the steep north walls of the Julian Alps, named after the Caesar himself.  We will spend three nights in the lush ski resort of Kranjska Gora.
July 1st: Awake with a view of impressive alpine mountain peaks.  After breakfast your ride will  take you right towards them. A unique experience awaits you – the cobbled Vrsic pass with 25 numbered switchbacks on both sides and a descent that is not for faint-hearted. After meandering by the emerald Soca river you will have to climb back to Italy and then return to Slovenia.
July 2nd: Another day, full of views; the highlight being the Bled lake with its famous lake in the middle. Venture a boat ride and ring the church bell for good luck or just savor the local cuisine. In any case, don’t miss the famous crème cake.  Return to Kranjska gora in the shade of Mezakla mountain and home of Golden Capricorn legend.
July 3rd: Breakfast and hotel check out. Unfortunately all good things must end, but at least you get to enjoy it till the end. Once again we cross into Italy and follow the route of one of the 2013 Giro d’Italia stages over Sella Nevea. When the mountains open and the valley turns into Friulian plane, you will sense the ocean breeze from Adriatic sea.  After lunch we will transfer back to our Venice airport hotel. Our mechanics will assist you in packing your bike for your flight home. “OPTIONAL NIGHT” to stay at the airport hotel that night and fly out next day.
