Take the cold & rainy winter blues away and join us on Breaking Away’s cycling vacation to Europe’s number one vacation spot to what is also quickly becoming the coolest new cycling destination… the Canary Islands. There is a reason why the Greeks and Romans called this group of Islands – “the Happy Islands, Garden of Hesperides, or Atlantida…(Atlantis). These islands are volcanic in origin and offer a terrain of endless sandy black & white beaches, high mountain vistas and diverse landscape. which makes it a cyclist’s paradise of fantastic routes and climbs that rival any of the toughest peaks in the Alpes. This is a perfect tour to bring on your non-cycling, significant other – since on this tour, we will be spending multiple nights between two locations on the islands of Gran Canaria and Tenerife. You will transported to a climber’s paradise that many pro teams like Tinkoff and Cannondale/Garmin take advantage of during the winter months to train on the islands cyclist friendly, uncrowded roads. Enjoy the benefits of wonderful dry year-round climate with constant mild temperatures and little rain, its splendid, high mountains & coastal vistas while cycling on serpentine like roads during the mornings and afternoons. When your fantastic day of cycling is over take advantage of the hotel facilities and get pampered at our luxurious spa hotel with it’s sprawling pools or take advantage of the nearby spectacular beaches. In the evenings sample the very best of the traditional cuisine of Canary Islands, which combines regional Spanish recipes with African and Latin-American influences. Come and ride with us on this Spanish archipelago in the middle of Atlantic Ocean, while having legendary Breaking Away staff supporting and cheering you every step of the way.
