You don’t have to travel to Europe to find alpine lakes, big climbs with fantastic scenery! Join us for this fall tour of Sierra Nevada foothills, lakes, and the mountains. Touring the High Sierra by bicycle means high elevation passes, crisp mountain air, and breathtaking views! This land was a source of inspiration for a lot of renowned photographers Ansel Adams work, There is not a better way to experience this inspirational scenery than from your road bike! We start this adventure ride in Sutter Creek area with it’s rolling hills that are speckled with vineyards and continue on up and over challenging mountain passes northbound in the Sierra Nevada Mountains cycling through giant sugar pine forests, alpine lakes, and mountain meadows. Carefully selected lodging in the Sierra Nevada’s with overnights in California’s historical towns and backcountry roads. September 14th: Arrive Sacramento International Airport.
Airport pickup and shuttle to our hotel. Build bikes or finalize your rental bike fit. Tonight you’ll meet your fellow guests at this evening’s “Welcome Meeting/Dinner Party”.
September 15th: After breakfast and hotel check out we will have a short van transfer to the Sierra Nevada foothills, Today’s route will gradually climb up to the old gold mining town of Placerville. Placerville at one point was better known as Hangtown.
September 16th: After a hearty breakfast today route will take us from Placerville to Nevada City. Nevada City is among the most interesting of California Gold Rush towns.The entire downtown district is a national historic landmark. Hotel check-in for two nights. 65mi/6,000ft
September 17th: Today’s route is a challenging loop ride in California’s Eastern Sierras one that follows scenic little known back roads that wind their way to a finishing descent back to Nevada City. 50mi/4,500ft
September 18th: After breakfast and hotel check out, we will have a short transfer.Today’s route is a rolling ride that includes cycling scenic Sierra Valley’s less known roads. You’ll ride will take you through this broad, open valley that is stretched out beneath surrounding mountain summits and beautiful green forests. It features a mix of sagebrush, juniper, agricultural fields, and wetlands.
September 19th: Today’s route snakes its way through Lassen National Volcanic Park and the Lake Almanor Area Basin. The Lake Almanor Basin and the surrounding Lassen National Volcanic Forest area spread across a natural wonderland created by millions of years of geologic forces, a crossroad where the granite of the Sierra Nevada meets the lava of the Cascades.Overnight Lake Almanor.
September 20th: Our final riding day finds us cycling a route that will take in a rolling downhill route to this tours finishing spot in Forrest Ranch. After lunch, we will have a van transfer to the airport hotel. Late evening airport shuttles or optional hotel night with shuttles in the morning(Optional Hotel Night)
